Description

Literacy is a person’s ability to read and write. It is also how well they can access written text in digital and print formats. Many students with disabilities face difficulties in learning and developing literacy skills. Assistive technology and instructional technology tools can support their needs to access literacy. This course will explore software supports that already exist in Apple, Google, and Windows devices to support literacy. Ubiquitous technologies like text-to-speech, speech-to-text, word prediction, graphic organizers, and authoring tools can enable students with disabilities to access the curriculum and be successful learners.

Objectives

  1. Understand literacy challenges of students with disabilities
  2. Develop a comprehensive understanding of AT for literacy
  3. Gain practical skills in various features for reading and writing
  4. Learn strategies for integrating assistive technologies into instruction.
