Description

Mathematics is a complex subject, requiring students to apply knowledge and strategies, solve problems, organize and connect their thinking. Therefore, many students find it challenging to make sense of learning mathematics. Assistive technology includes tools that can help all students accomplish tasks in the area of mathematics. There are many low-tech and high-tech solutions available for people who struggle with learning mathematics. This session will explore various strategies to make math instruction more accessible by incorporating low-tech to high-tech AT tools.

Objectives

  1. Recognize the complexity of mathematics
  2. Make sense of various challenges faced by students with disabilities in learning mathematics
  3. Identify various assistive technologies for teaching and learning mathematics
  4. Understand how to integrate AT in math

  1. Identify and define the required skills to learn math
  2. Describe the types of disabilities that affect math performance.
  3. Identify the challenges and difficulties of students with disabilities in mathematics.
  4. Explore various AT tools to support individuals accessing and learning mathematics.
